It is often said that ‘Quality education is the bed rock and foundation of every nations’ but unlike Liberia, education has become an embarrassment due to the inability of several public officials to write an error free sentence especially on social media that is widely used by many across the globe.
Regrettably, those that are spearheading Liberia’s education sector that should help reshape and transform the nation’s already failed education sector are the very same individuals that can’t hardly composed, something which also drew the attention of some international partners.
Furthermore, during the administration of former President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, she once described Liberia’s education system as a ‘messy’, a statement that many saw as an affront to the country and its people. But today, in testimony to said assertion, there are many screenshots to poor write-up by some public officials on social media.
Latest of said embarrassment is Deputy Education Minister for Administration, Latim Dathong whose article on his official Facebook page has drawn serious public attention, something that has also led to Students Activist, Martin K.N. Kollie categorizing them as a “Coup against education in Liberia.”
These are the errors identified within the MoE Deputy Minister write-up on his Facebook page recently: “One of the most impressive software ‘build”; “as any thing”; They also “build”; ask them for “your selves” and when “giving” the opportunity.
But in reaction to his poor write-up, Activist Martin K.N. Kollie who is known as a fierce critics of public officials stated, “The errors in his write-up are preponderant (too many). His lines are a sea of errors. But I will stop here because I just woke up from bed and I am still feeling embarrassed.”
Activist Kollie wondered, “If this is not a coup against education in Liberia, then you tell me what it is. Sadly, this is the second man in command of our children’s future, by extension, Liberia’s future. The highest qualification that this minister has ever obtained is an “Online MBA” from a predatory college.”
He further maintained, “When I challenged his fake credentials some months back, a few of you thought I was being hateful. But I was actually doing it out of love for our collective future. I hope you’ve seen and you’re seeing how we have gambled our future. In as much Minister Latim Dathong is a public official, I have every right to critique him. I hope he accepts in good faith.”
“One of the reasons why some of our graduates are leaving our schools and cannot even write a fitting sentence is because of the kind of people we have in charge of education. This is what I am fighting against because Liberia deserves far better. I hate no one. I love everyone but I love Liberia more,” Kollie intoned.
He added, “You may not appreciate what I am doing now but let history be our judge. A government of the worst and the least qualified group of citizens is called Kakocracy. Kakocrats are in charge. Don’t expect anything other than GIGO. Our international partners do follow social media religiously. Do you know why they are not pumping in more money? Because the quality of leaders that you chose are the worst and the least qualified. They are Kakocrats.”
