The President of Ghana, Nana Akufo-Addo has pledged to donate Ghc 1 million to reigning Ghana Premier League champions, Accra Hearts of Oak.
The money is in support of Hearts’ CAF Confederation Cup campaign.
Mr Akufo-Addo made the pledge when the club’s officials and players visited him at the Jubilee House, the seat of government in Accra, Ghana.
In a brief remark to his guests, the President observed how his family was highly divided between Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak back in the days when there was not even a stadium in Accra.
“I followed the fortunes of Hearts of Oak all my life,” he said.
He congratulated Hearts of Oak for winning the Ghana Premier League last season and qualifying for the Continental campaign, saying the club has done very well.
He thanked the club for making time to visit him and present the Ghana Premier League and the MTN FA Cup trophy to him.
Asante Kotoko and Accra Hearts of Oak are the two biggest football clubs in Ghana and the two biggest rivals.
